Evergreen Nursery's Planter Mix & Mulch is organic compost classified as Class 12(A) mulch (Less than 1" in size). It is a blend of fast and slow decomposing woody material and green waste recycled from the greater San Diego area, source separated and received at local self-haul commercial recycling facilities.
It is materially free of undesirable impurities (less than 0.1% by weight) such as glass, plastics, paint, petroleum products or other chemical residues harmful to plants. It has been thermophylically composted for more than 21 days and cured for more than 90 days.
It has been screened to a particle size less than 1" with most of the material having a particle size of less than 1/2". The material typically has a bulk density of 800 to 1,200 lbs per yard and pH ranging from 6.6 to 7.5 depending on the season. It has been nitrogen fortified throughout the composting process and is organically stable and has a dark color and rich texture.
It provides modest levels of slow-realease nutrient content that is an efficient vehicle for plant uptake, but is not a fertilizer. A fertilization additive plan should be developed and implemented depending on the underlying soil conditions and the desired use. It is typically used at a rate of 1-4 cubic yards per 1,000 square feet as a part of a soil preparation that may include fast and slow release fertilizers, soil sulfur, gypsum or other additives depending on site conditions.
