Plant of the Month - December 2020
Ilex vomitoria 'Nana' - Dwarf Yaupon Holly
An attractive shrub year-round, Dwarf Yaupon Holly is a great choice for fall and winter interest in your garden. The evergreen broadleaf shrub grows to about 3-5 feet tall and wide and forms a lovely dense mound of glossy dark grey-green leaves with scalloped edges. New growth emerges with a reddish tint. Tiny, subtle white flower clusters are followed by shiny red berries in fall and winter. Foliage is dense and compact enough to easily be sheared into shape, making it a great choice for a low, formal hedge or topiary. Plant in full sun to partial shade.
