Fine Ground Cover Mulch is a shredded wood product comprised of many types of woods. The different types and sizes of wood means different degrees of longevity. It does not last as long as 100 percent fir bark, but it is a lot more economical and beneficial to the soil around plants. The longer it takes for wood to decompose on the soil the more nitrogen it pulls from it. Therefore, larger sized bark or wood products are not always the best top dressing around plants. Fine Ground Cover Mulch is what CalTrans uses alongside the freeways for weed suppression and erosion control.
