Plant of the Month - March 2020
Sea Lavender, Statice
Sea Lavender offers pretty much everything you want in a plant – it’s hardy and low maintenance, drought tolerant once established, does well in most soils, and blooms nearly year-round! Plus, the long-lasting blue-violet and white blooms are great for cut flower arrangements and will retain their color even when dried. The evergreen shrub has ruffled, leathery green leaves that grow in a rosette form, with large mounds of flowers rising above the greenery on tall stems. Plants grow to about 2-3 feet tall and wide. The flowers are attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. Sea Lavender works equally well for both coastal or desert gardens and is wonderful for use in beds and borders, mass plantings, or container gardens. Plant in full sun in well-drained soil.
