So what is this about losing our lease in Rancho Bernardo? Well, I’ll tell you a little story.
When we took over the Rancho Bernardo site from Green Thumb Nurseries in January of 2002, we assumed their lease from the City of San Diego. Although, as many of you long time shoppers know, Green Thumb sold not only plants, but pottery, garden art and a large supply of garden supplies, the City started bothering us within a few years about selling those items. They said that we could only sell what we produced. We have been fighting with them ever since and even though we stopped selling the ancillary products, they just don’t want us there.
We have long been a grower of our own products and have offered incredible wholesale value to our customers but we know that many people want more than plants when they come to shop. It has been extremely difficult for us, being harassed by the city over the past few years. Now what do we do but have to close a store and the city will lose the sales tax revenue that they sorely need. Sometimes government actions just don’t make sense!
But we have plans!!! We have purchased property in Blossom Valley for our next Evergreen Nursery. It won’t be open for a while but if you get a chance head on down to check out our progress. The property borders Interstate 8, Blossom Valley Road and Flinn Springs Road. For all of our old Spring Valley customers, we will be returning to the East County soon!
For all of our loyal Rancho Bernardo customers, our Carmel Valley store and our Oceanside store are just a hop and a skip away, so come over and visit us!
In the meantime, our loss is your gain. We are selling everything at close-out prices. All 1, 5, and 15 gallon plants are 30% off our regular low prices. All specimen trees 24” box and up are 40% off!!! These prices are at our Rancho Bernardo location ONLY.
