Zamia furfuracea - Cardboard Palm, Jamaican Sago
Zamia is an an interesting and unique cycad (sometimes referred to as living fossils) native to Mexico. It has a short trunk that is sometimes underground. Flat, rigid leaves that feel slightly fuzzy and cardboard-like give Zamia furfuracea one of its common names, Cardboard Palm. The slow-growing plant grows to a height of about 3-4 feet with an equal spread. It requires regular water and prefers full sun but will tolerate partial shade. Cold hardy to around 30 degrees F.
